Who is this OET nursing course for?

The course is built for nurses who need OET Nursing for registration abroad and want one clear route instead of scattered free material.

Nurses joining the NMC register

If you are an internationally educated nurse working towards NMC registration in the UK, this course trains the exact OET Nursing tasks you will meet, alongside your CBT and OSCE preparation. The UK pathway guide explains the full NMC route.

Nurses stuck below C+ in Writing

Writing is where many nurses repeat the exam. The course teaches case-note selection, letter structure and professional tone for nursing readers, then corrects your letters so you can see what still costs marks.

Nurses heading to Australia or the Gulf

OET Nursing is also used for nursing registration outside the UK. Check your destination in the Australia pathway guide or the Gulf pathway guide, then prepare with the same nursing method.

What OET score do nurses need?

For the UK, the NMC asks for OET Nursing with grade B (350) in Listening, Reading and Speaking and C+ (300) in Writing. Other destinations set their own rules, so check the right regulator first.

How do you pass OET Writing as a nurse?

OET Nursing Writing gives you 45 minutes (5 minutes of reading time and 40 minutes of writing) to turn a set of case notes into one letter of about 180–200 words. The reader is usually a health professional who will continue the patient’s care.

Discharge letters

Hand a patient over to a community or district nurse, a GP or a family carer, with the care plan, medication changes and follow-up the reader must act on.

Transfer letters

Move a patient to a rehabilitation unit, care home or another ward, focusing on current condition, mobility, risks and ongoing nursing needs.

Referral letters

Refer a patient to a GP, physiotherapist, dietitian or other professional, stating clearly why they are being referred and what you are asking for.

What the examiner checks

Purpose, content, conciseness and clarity, genre and style, organisation and layout, and language. A clear purpose in the opening line and a specific final request protect marks in several criteria at once.

The most common reason nurses miss C+ is selection: copying too many case notes instead of choosing what the reader needs. The course trains a repeatable selection method on nursing tasks, and the OET Writing tips show the core rules. If you already have letters written, OET writing correction shows you exactly what to fix.

What nursing role-plays will you practise for OET Speaking?

OET Speaking has two role-plays. You get 3 minutes to prepare each card and about 5 minutes to complete it, with the interlocutor playing the patient or a relative.

Typical nursing scenarios

  • Explaining a procedure, wound care or a discharge plan
  • Medication adherence, side effects and safe use
  • Lifestyle advice after diagnosis, such as diet, smoking or exercise
  • Reassuring an anxious patient or a worried relative
  • Persuading a reluctant patient to accept treatment or follow-up

How you are assessed

Examiners score clinical communication (relationship building, understanding the patient’s perspective, providing structure, gathering information and giving information) as well as intelligibility, fluency, appropriate language and grammar. A calm structure and patient-friendly explanations matter more than advanced vocabulary.

The recorded lessons give you nursing cards with expected ideas and useful language, and the live 1:1 session lets you rehearse them with feedback. Read the OET Speaking tips for the role-play method before your session.

How do you prepare for OET Listening and Reading?

Listening and Reading are the same for every profession, so nurses sit exactly the same papers as other candidates. What changes your score is method, not luck.

Listening (about 40 minutes)

Part A is note completion from two consultations, Part B is short workplace extracts and Part C is longer presentations or interviews. Train prediction before each extract and write exactly what you hear, with correct spelling. See the OET Listening tips.

Reading (60 minutes)

Part A is a strict 15-minute scanning task across four short texts; Parts B and C test detail, gist and inference. Use keyword anchors in Part A and eliminate distractors in Parts B and C. See the OET Reading tips.

The course practice library gives you timed papers with answer keys and rationales, and the separate Listening and Reading practice packages add more papers when you need volume before the exam.

Which add-ons help most before exam day?

Every package can be extended when you need more feedback. Add-ons are tied to your active course and are the fastest way to fix the sub-test that is holding your score back.

Extra Writing assessments

Add 3, 5, 7 or 10 letter assessments to an active course. Each letter is marked manually with an estimated score, detailed correction and voice-note feedback via WhatsApp. You can choose your own letters or follow recall-recommended tasks.

Private Speaking sessions

Book one or two live 1:1 Speaking assessment sessions. Each session covers different OET cards and ends with detailed performance feedback, so you hear exactly what to change before the real role-plays.

Full mock exams

Sit 1, 3 or 5 full OET mock exams across all four sub-tests. Writing and Speaking are assessed with detailed feedback, Listening and Reading are auto-marked, and each mock package is valid for 6 months.

Can you see real OET results first?

Yes. Before you enrol, browse the 1,750+ verified OET score cards from 2021–2026 shared by nurses, doctors and other healthcare professionals who prepared with Dr Hesham. They are grouped by year, so you can see recent results rather than old screenshots.
