Who is this OET pharmacy course for?

The course is built for pharmacists who need OET Pharmacy for registration abroad and want one clear route instead of scattered free material.

Pharmacists registering with the GPhC

If you qualified outside Great Britain and are working towards GPhC registration, this course trains the OET Pharmacy tasks you will meet. The UK pathway guide explains where OET fits alongside OSPAP and the registration assessment.

Pharmacists who keep missing B in Writing

The GPhC needs B in every sub-test, so one weak letter can cost you the whole sitting. The course teaches case-note selection, structure and tone for pharmacy readers, and Writing add-ons show you exactly what still costs marks.

Pharmacists heading to Australia or the Gulf

All Ahpra National Boards, including the Pharmacy Board of Australia, accept OET. Check your destination in the Australia pathway guide or the Gulf pathway guide, then prepare with the same pharmacy method.

What OET score do pharmacists need?

For the UK, the GPhC asks for OET Pharmacy with at least grade B (350) in each of the four sub-tests, achieved in one sitting. Other destinations set their own rules, so check the right regulator first.

How do you pass OET Writing as a pharmacist?

OET Pharmacy Writing gives you 45 minutes (5 minutes of reading time and 40 minutes of writing) to turn a set of case notes into one letter with a body of about 180–200 words. There is no automatic penalty for writing slightly over or under that range.

Letters about a medication problem

Write to a GP about a dosage issue, a possible interaction, side effects or poor adherence, and say clearly what review or change you are asking for.

Letters about safety and complaints

Report a dispensing or product problem, such as an expiry-date discrepancy, with the facts the reader needs and the action you expect.

Letters to other professionals

Hand over a patient's medicines plan to another pharmacist, a nurse or a carer, focusing on what has changed and what they must monitor.

What the examiner checks

Six criteria: purpose, content, conciseness and clarity, genre and style, organisation and layout, and language. A clear purpose in the opening line and a specific final request protect marks across several criteria.

The most common reason pharmacists miss B is selection: copying every medicine and date instead of choosing what the reader needs to act on. See a full worked example in the OET writing sample for pharmacists, read the OET Writing tips, and use OET writing correction to see exactly what to fix in your own letters.

What pharmacy role-plays will you practise for OET Speaking?

OET Speaking takes about 20 minutes and has two role-plays. You get 3 minutes to prepare each card and about 5 minutes to complete it, with the interlocutor playing the patient, a relative or a carer.

Typical pharmacy scenarios

  • Counselling a patient on a new medicine and how to take it
  • Explaining side effects and when to seek help
  • Advice on an interaction or an over-the-counter product
  • Handling a complaint about a dispensing problem
  • Encouraging adherence when a patient wants to stop a medicine

How you are assessed

Examiners score clinical communication (relationship building, understanding the patient’s perspective, providing structure, gathering information and giving information) as well as intelligibility, fluency, appropriate language and grammar. A calm structure and patient-friendly explanations matter more than advanced vocabulary.

The recorded lessons give you pharmacy cards with expected ideas and useful language, and a private 1:1 session lets you rehearse them with feedback. Practise with the pharmacy role-play cards and read the OET Speaking tips before your session.

How do you prepare for OET Listening and Reading?

Listening and Reading are the same for every profession, so you sit exactly the same papers as nurses and doctors. What changes your score is method, not luck.

Listening (about 40 minutes, 42 questions)

Part A is note completion from two consultations, Part B is short workplace extracts and Part C is longer presentations or interviews. Train prediction before each extract and write exactly what you hear, with correct spelling. See the OET Listening tips.

Reading (60 minutes, 42 questions)

Part A is a strict 15-minute scanning task across four short texts; Parts B and C test detail, gist and inference. Use keyword anchors in Part A and eliminate distractors in Parts B and C. See the OET Reading tips.

Which add-ons help most before exam day?

Add-ons are tied to your active course and are the fastest way to fix the sub-test that is holding your score back.

Extra Writing assessments

Add 3, 5, 7 or 10 letter assessments to an active course. Each letter is marked manually with an estimated score, detailed correction and voice-note feedback via WhatsApp.

Private Speaking sessions

Book one or two live 1:1 Speaking assessment sessions. Each session covers different OET cards and ends with detailed performance feedback.

Full mock exams

Sit 1, 3 or 5 full OET mock exams across all four sub-tests. Writing and Speaking are assessed with detailed feedback, and Listening and Reading are auto-marked.

What OET score do pharmacists need for the GPhC?

The GPhC asks for OET Pharmacy with at least grade B in each of the four sub-tests, achieved in one sitting. It accepts OET on paper or computer but not OET@Home, and results should normally be less than 2 years old.

Can I use OET Pharmacy for Australia?

Yes. All Ahpra National Boards, including the Pharmacy Board of Australia, accept OET. For tests taken from 23 April 2026 the minimums are Listening 350, Reading 360, Writing 350 and Speaking 360, and OET@Home is not accepted.

What do pharmacists write in OET Writing?

You write one letter from case notes in 40 minutes after 5 minutes of reading time, with a body of about 180–200 words. Pharmacy letters often deal with a medication problem, such as asking a GP to review a dosage issue, an interaction or poor adherence.
