The UK route is profession-specific. Each regulator has its own accepted English evidence, application portal, exam route, document standards and processing timeline.

Doctors - GMC pathway

GMCPLAB or approved postgraduate routeOET Medicine

For international medical graduates preparing for GMC registration with a licence to practise. The route commonly includes GMC Online, EPIC verification, PLAB 1 and PLAB 2, or an approved postgraduate qualification such as MRCP or MRCS.

English-test planning: OET Medicine is accepted by GMC as English evidence when it meets the current GMC requirements. Candidates must release scores to GMC through the OET portal and confirm certificate validity before applying.

NMCCBT and OSCEOET Nursing

For internationally educated nurses and midwives joining the NMC register. The pathway usually includes NMC Online, eligibility checks, CBT, English evidence, OSCE in the UK, health and character checks, and receiving the NMC PIN.

English-test planning: NMC accepts OET Nursing with B in Listening, Reading and Speaking and C+ in Writing. Combining rules can apply only when all NMC conditions are met, so candidates must check the official NMC page before relying on combined scores.

English-test planning: The PDF guide highlights OET Pharmacy and IELTS routes for English evidence, but candidates must verify current GPhC and OSPAP university requirements because universities can set additional entry conditions.
