OET for allied health FAQ
Short answers before you enrol. More exam questions are answered on the full OET FAQ page.
Which OET version should allied health professionals take?
Book the OET version for your own profession. OET covers 12 professions, including Dietetics, Occupational Therapy, Optometry, Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Radiography and Speech Pathology. Listening and Reading are the same for everyone, while Writing and Speaking are profession-specific.
What OET score do allied health professionals need for the HCPC?
For podiatrists, dietitians, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and radiographers, the HCPC asks for a total of 1400 with no sub-test below 300. Speech and language therapists need a total of 1800 with no sub-test below 400. The test must be taken at a test centre, not at home, and the certificate must be no more than 2 years old.
Does Ahpra accept OET for allied health professions?
Yes. Ahpra accepts any profession-specific OET. For tests taken from 23 April 2026 the minimums are Listening 350, Reading 360, Writing 350 and Speaking 360, two sittings within 12 months are allowed with set floors, and OET@Home is not accepted.
Can dentists use OET for the UK?
The GDC's current list of routinely accepted English evidence does not include OET, so UK dentists should check the GDC page before booking. In Australia, the Dental Board accepts OET under the same Ahpra rules as other National Boards.
